5 of Our Favorite Productivity Methods

Let’s face it. Some days, being productive is hard. Whether it’s unmotivation, distraction or another factor, there are some days that getting things done is a challenge. If you’re struggling with your productivity, here are five productivity methods you can try.

1. The Pomodoro Technique

The Pomodoro Technique is a productivity method for optimizing your time management. Typically, people who use this method work for a 25-minute block, then take a five-minute break, then repeat. After a few work periods, they take a longer break. Using the pomodoro technique can help you break a big task into manageable chunks.

2. Eat the Frog

This technique involves identifying the most difficult task of the day (the frog) and complete the task right away in the morning (eating it). Eat the Frog can allow you to tackle the most challenging part of your day immediately to free up time and mental space for other tasks. This can be especially useful if you feel most energized and productive in the morning.

3. Deep Work

Coined by computer science professor and nonfiction author Cal Newport, Deep Work refers to a productivity method in which you block a few hours of time to do deep, undistracted, focused work. Contrary to “shallow work,” like answering emails, deep work is hard to replicate and often involves a high level of skill, such as computer programming or writing a paper.

4. Task Batching

Task Batching is an ideal technique for managing a list of several small tasks. Through this method, you batch similar tasks into groups to complete at the same time. This can keep your brain in the right mode for each set of tasks, helping you complete them more efficiently.

5. The Rule of 3

The Rule of Three is the method you need if you struggle with a long, unruly to-do list. In this method, every day, week and month, prioritize three of the most important things you want to work on. Knowing which tasks really matter can help you feel more focused and clearheaded.
